Where tradition meets innovation

Överum, located 35 km north of Västervik in the province of Småland, has a long tradition in iron processing. The company was founded in 1655 by Walloons. The presence of flowing water, abundant wood for charcoal production, and iron ore were crucial for establishing a production facility in Överum.

Initially, the production focused on cannons and cannonballs, but pig iron and wrought iron were also produced. A long and successful history in iron and steel processing has led to the modern methods used today, which achieve hardened steel constructions with long lifespans and extreme strength. Combined with solid experience in different plow characteristics across various soil types, this gives Överum plows a unique market position in terms of efficiency and durability.

Our Timeline

1655

The Överum Bruk plant was established when the Walloon Henrik de Trij received the royal privilege to build a blast furnace and a cannon foundry on the site.

In the early 19th century, foreman CP Spångberg created the first Överum horse-drawn plow, and Överum began serial production of horse-drawn plows, which continued for 108 years until 1958.

1850

A new era in Överum's history was ushered in, marking a shift towards developing tools for agriculture. In addition to many other tools crucial for farming, moldboard plows were already being manufactured.

1918

Överum was acquired by the Match Company, leading to a new boost in production. In 1928, the company began manufacturing tractor plows.

1944

The first mounted plow was introduced to the market, and a decade later, the world's first plow with a fully automatic stone ejection system was launched. In 1959, Överum brought the first full-mounted reversible plow to market, but initial sales were disappointing. The anticipated success came in 1968 with the introduction of the S-plow. This groundbreaking plow system featured a frame made from tubular profiles, adjustable working widths, and a hydraulic stone ejection system.

1998

Överum was owned by Kongskilde Industries A/S.

2024

After CNH Industrial N.V. sold Överum's plow business to a Munich-based investment holding in April, the company now operates independently under the new name Overum Industries AB.
